Mike Asukwo is a renowned illustrator who works as the Chief Editorial Artist and head of graphics in BusinessDay Media, Nigeria. His passion for art found full expression while he was working as a full-time studio artist (1996-2001), majoring in monumental outdoor sculptures. Prior to joining BusinessDay (2001), Mike took several turns to handle many sculpture projects across Nigeria.
Mike’s illustrations/cartoons, including capturing the odds in different governments in Nigeria, are widely circulated given his many years in the art. His cartoons have featured in several art exhibitions, and it wouldn’t be surprising to find his work in many art galleries, offices and homes across the world. Mike is considered a master in the art of speaking through illustration.
As one of the world’s best cartoonists in Africa, Mike’s excellent works have won him scholarships, several accolades and wards, including the Wole Soyinka award for investigative reporting – cartoon category 3 years in a row (2013,2014 and 2015), the Humours award for best cartoonist/illustrator (2021), the DOMA awards for best cartoon media specialist (2022), etc.
Presently, Mike is passionate about public speaking and invested in telling impactful stories through illustrations at a global scale.
